First, a little botany: bakuchiol comes from the Babchi seed, also called Bakushi or Psoralier. This herbaceous plant of the Fabaceae family (Psoralea corylifolia) is endemic to the Himalayan region. Babchi is cultivated for its many medicinal virtues and thus occupies a special place in traditional, Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine.

Babchi seed is harvested from December to March. Its oil is particularly rich in coumarin, an active ingredient which has antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-seborrheic and anti-inflammatory properties, responsible for its benefits in cosmetology:

First of all, bakuchiol stimulates the body's production of collagen and elastin, two structural proteins responsible for the suppleness and firmness of the skin. It also helps activate cell renewal within the epidermis and redensify the skin. These actions will help improve the uniformity of the complexion and the quality of the skin's texture, which it smoothes and retexturizes. This is why bakuchiol is often used and highlighted for its anti-wrinkle and anti-aging action.

Its antioxidant properties also protect the dermis from damage caused by free radicals. It also helps to limit hyperpigmentation of the skin linked to UV damage from the sun.

Its antibacterial, anti-seborrheic and anti-inflammatory properties are responsible for the effects of bakuchiol against acne and blemishes. Through its ability to rebalance the fatty acid composition of the skin's sebum, bakuchiol is therefore very effective in rehydrating problem skin, and thus limiting the appearance of blackheads and imperfections.

Unlike retinol, Bakuchiol is non-irritating and can therefore be used on all skin types, including the most fragile and sensitive. This allows Bakuchiol to be integrated into any routine because it does not conflict with other active ingredients.
