HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN IN SUMMER

NUENCE PRENDRE SOIN DE SA PEAU L'ETE

Each change of season brings new challenges for our skin. Particularly in summer during which imbalances caused by exposure to the sun (UV rays) or even more profuse sweating require increased vigilance and the adoption of good practices.

In order to allow you to make the most of the benefits of the season, the NUENCE team has summarized in this article some advice and preventive measures. As you will see, protecting and maintaining your skin during the summer is not limited to using sunscreen.

GOOD PROTECTIVE ACTION TO TAKE:

Often protected by clothing throughout the rest of the year, the skin, when summer arrives, finds itself stripped bare and exposed to the sun's rays. Repetitive and unprotected exposure of the skin is harmful and causes multiple reactions such as skin thickening, premature aging, spots, redness, irritation or allergies and sunburn. It is therefore essential to adopt some good, common-sense practices:

  • Avoid exposure to the sun between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. or when the UV index is greater than 3;
  • Cover your head, if possible with a wide-brimmed hat which will keep your face in the shade.
  • Wear sunglasses.
  • Wear light but covering clothing.
  • Know your skin's sensitivity to the sun and choose an appropriate SPF index (see below)

Attention. A child under 2 years old should never be exposed to the sun. Likewise, pregnant women should be careful in the sun to avoid hyperpigmentation of the skin.

HYDRATE INSIDE AND OUT

Healthy skin is perfectly hydrated skin, especially in summer. With heat, our body eliminates water more quickly through sweating, hence the importance of redouble our efforts in terms of hydration!

If you frequent swimming pools or the seaside, chlorine, salt and sand are factors which also contribute to the drying and dehydration of the skin.

THE ROLE OF FOOD

A rich and balanced diet is essential to ensure the health and balance of the skin during the summer.

Favor foods full of water such as melon, watermelon or cucumber which in addition to being very good antioxidants will maintain the hydration of the body and the skin.

Foods rich in antioxidants will help prepare your skin for the sun. In fact, they protect the body's cells against oxidative stress in addition to strengthening the epidermis: avocados, almonds, oranges, kiwis, tomatoes, carrots, watermelon, beets, apples, white beans... Fatty fish rich in omega-3 (salmon, tuna, sardines) are also highly recommended.

NUENCE AND FOOD FOR THE SUMMER SEASON

You can opt for food supplements rich in beta-carotene, vitamin E or vitamin C to activate melanin and thus prepare your skin before the start of the sunny season. But also protect it more during exposure and help prolong the tan.

DRINK: YES BUT WARM

It is essential to drink enough. In summer, always remember to have a bottle of water on hand. For an adult, the recommended amount is 1.5 to 2 liters of water per day.

When it's hot, we want to drink cold or very cold. However, it is preferable to follow the advice of traditional Chinese medicine and drink lukewarm (between 12 and 14°C) which allows us to both quench our thirst and effectively hydrate our body. Drinking hot or lukewarm helps regulate our internal temperature and facilitates the work of the digestive system.

NUENCE collaborates with PLANETA VERD ®, a herbalist since 1988 and particularly recommends the refreshing infusion of summer (bulk bag 80gr). This infusion is available in limited edition and in duo with the soothing fluid NUENCE.

Dietitians also emphasize the importance of drinking regularly and in small sips. If you do very physical work or play sports, it is important to turn to mineralized beverages to compensate for mineral losses through perspiration, for example water containing potassium and magnesium.

CHOOSING A SUNSCREEN SUITABLE FOR YOUR SKIN

If it is strongly recommended to opt for a treatment with SPF (Sun Protection Factor = Sun Protection Index) throughout the year, it is all the more important to regularly apply sunscreen in summer when the skin is often in direct contact with the sun.

Sun care will not only prevent the skin from burning, but it will also maintain its elasticity and protect it from UVA, responsible for premature aging or sagging of the skin, sunspots and the appearance of wrinkles. Sometimes the harmful results are not visible immediately but appear several years later when exposure has been repeated and insufficiently protected.

Advice :

  • Sunscreen must be applied as the last step of your skincare routine, after applying a moisturizer, in order to benefit from optimal protection.
  • Choose a high SPF index (minimum 30) in line with the sensitivity of your skin to the sun.
  • Apply it regularly, ideally every two hours, or after bathing.

ADAPTING YOUR CARE ROUTINE

  • Avoid moisturizers that are too rich

With heat, pores dilate, and the skin secretes more sebum. It is therefore advisable to choose lighter creams, which will allow the epidermis to breathe, while keeping it hydrated. This is why, for this season, NUENCE has developed a soothing fluid with a light texture.

  • Do not over exfoliate the skin

A light exfoliation of the body and face once a week during the summer period is more than sufficient. You should limit the use of exfoliating acids such as salicylic acid and glycolic acid. These can alter the skin's natural protection against the sun and dehydrate it, making it more vulnerable to skin damage.

  • Apply after-sun care

For the driest and most sensitive skin, applying a moisturizing and soothing after-sun treatment at the end of the day is a good practice to deeply nourish the skin, soften it and maintain its elasticity.
